Jefferson County has seen property values skyrocket in the recent few years, with some business property values up by more than 300%. I am running for Assessor because Jefferson County needs someone who will apply property values both accurately and equally.
What makes you the most qualified person for the position?
I am the only candidate in this race with a real estate appraiser’s license. I also have 24 years in the real estate industry. It is from this wide-ranging experience that I will draw upon on a daily basis when I am the Jefferson County Assessor. Half of my 24 years in real estate has been invested in property appraisal. In addition, I have worked in the Jefferson County Assessor’s Office as a Commercial Appraiser, and I am currently employed with the Arapahoe County Assessor’s Office as a Commercial Appraiser.
What would your top two priorities be if elected?
My first priority will be to provide accuracy in property values. In the past several years property values have seen increases of more than 300 percent. An inaccurate property value can place a great deal of stress on a property owner, especially a business property owner, because their taxes must be paid in two halves or all at once. My second priority will be to actively and genuinely listen to property owners when they file an appeal of their valuation. Mass appraisal models are by no means perfect. As the Assessor, if we see that a mistake is made, we will correct it.
What else should the voters know about you?
I have been married to a wonderful woman for 26 years. We have a daughter entering high school this fall. We are blessed to call Jefferson County “home.” I served in US Navy submarines for 10 years, and I served with honor. I will serve my county in the same manner.
