Hutchinson club plans Eco-Fair, Shred Day

Hutchinson Elementary School's Environmental Club, in partnership with Shred Nations, will host an Eco-Fair and Shred Day to help residents recycle and shred unwanted items.

The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 21 at 12900 W. Utah Ave., Lakewood. Donations of $10-$20 are appreciated.

Vendors present at the event include:

Shred Nations and All-American Records Management: Unwanted confidential documents including bank statements, old tax return files, medical records, credit card receipts, etc., will be shredded on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees limited to three banker boxes (100 pounds) , and machine paper, letterhead, white tablet paper, computer printout paper, laser print paper and other miscellaneous white paper and staples are accepted.

GreenSheen: Old latex-based paint will be recycled without harming the environment.

ARC: Kitchen-sized bags/boxes of clothing and gently used, small household items will be accepted.

Terracycle Brigades: Recycling stations to collect empty wrappers from Tom's of Maine natural care products, Colgate oral care products, personal and beauty products, GoGo Squeez products, Brita products and energy bar wrappers. This is not a product donation collection.

Kids can make a reusable bag out of a T-shirt at the Green Mountain Sustainable Neighborhood Group table. Projects can be made starting at 11 a.m., and it is first-come, first-serve. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. An active member of the group will be on site to answer questions. In addition, mini-seminars will be offered on composting (12:30 p.m.) and zero waste (1:30 p.m.).

Multiple food trucks will be on site to sell food for visitors to enjoy.

Donations can be cash or checks, payable to Hutchinson Elementary. Proceeds will go toward future projects of the Hutchinson Environmental Club.
