Sgt. Mike Harris looks out into the crowd of about 100 Jefferson County parents who attended a Technology Safety Night on May 10 at Falcon Bluffs Middle School in Littleton. The event was hosted by Cheezo, the Jefferson County Sheirff’s Department’s Child Sex Offender Internet Investigations Unit. Its popular mascot makes about 75-to-100 presentations a year at local schools, and the unit averages about arrests of child sex offenders each year, Harris said. In the presentation, Harris talked to parents about the potential dangers that technology can present to children of all ages and helped familiarize the attendees with common social media sites and applications for smart devices, hidden apps, ghost apps, privacy settings, location services and technology addiction.
