Localworks named nonoprofit of the year

West Chamber honored Wheat Ridge group recently

The name “Localworks” is well known to just about anyone who has enjoyed a social event in the Wheat Ridge area, but that recognition probably got a big regional boost, after this year’s West chamber annual Chairman’s Gala, where Localworks was given an award as that group’s choice for “Nonprofit of the Year.”

The gala award, given on Feb. 10, was the chamber’s way of designating Localworks as an organization that has done an admirable job in its mission of advancing Wheat Ridge as a vibrant and sustainable community.

When evaluating nonprofits for this award, the West Chamber looked for “[a]n organization that exemplifies making our community a better place to live and work by advocating for positive change within the Jefferson County community.” Since 2005, Localworks has aspired to do just this through their many programs. The group hosts over 50 community building events every year, helping to draw people from outside Wheat Ridge to have interesting reasons to visit and support the community. Localworks also revitalizes commercial and residential properties, builds capacity in community leaders and supports pride in Wheat Ridge’s neighborhoods.

“We believe in Wheat Ridge and stand behind the work we’ve catalyzed to invest in our community,” said Britta Fisher, Localworks Executive Director. “With so many outstanding nonprofits serving Jefferson County, we are honored to be recognized as Nonprofit of the Year by the West Chamber.”

At the Chairman’s Gala, the West Chamber also honored five other business and two individuals. The other awardees included Key Bank as Large Business of the Year; Citywide Banks as Medium Business of the Year; Daniel D. Bigandt Insurance Agency, Inc. with American Family Insurance as Small Business of the Year; AdWest Consulting, Inc. as Women-Owned Business of the Year; and The Abo Group, Inc. as Minority-Owned Business of the Year. Jim and Kathleen Curtis of the Village Roaster received the Steve Burkholder Diamond Legacy Award.
